Ricardo Cabello has written a blog entry all about his input into The Wilderness Downtown Project. He emphasises how big the whole project was and takes us through the different roles he had as well as some of the other members of the creative team. It’s a bit of a daunting read, as it’s full of technical jargon I am yet to grasp an understanding off. I also worry because it sounds like the project was not only difficult but only able to be a success due to the many specialists involved. I am not a specialist and I am only one..! It is however very interesting to see the difficulties they faced and how the overcame the problems that arose. They were really discovering more and more about the abilities of JavaScript and HTML5 while creating this project. It is particularly interesting to see how they managed to embed Google maps and street view into the programming and how this was not straight forward in the slightest, especially with regards to street view. They had to apply a distortion to each shot in order to stop the panorama curves. It’s impressive to see the amount of work that went into the project.
The animations were created with Harmony and here is an example of what I created in a minute using this tool.
